The AppleShare Updater modifies a PACK resource in the
AppleShare file. If you are running an anti-viral program this
may trigger an anti-virus response. This response can vary from
reporting a possible viral infection, to disallowing the attempted
╥infection╙ silently, to disallowing the update but reporting the
action. If this happens to you, congratulations! Your anti-viral
software is working.
If the update has been disallowed, AppleShare Updater will
report a failure to you without modifying the file, even if your
anti-virus software doesn╒t give you a message.
Simply override your anti-virus program (if it has an override
switch) or disable it while you run the Updater. Don╒t forget to
turn it back on as soon as you╒re done.
Please note that while the Updater is performing an activity that
appears virus-like, it is not a virus and was virus-free when we
shipped it to you. Of course, if you downloaded it from a bulletin
board, you should scan the Updater for a virus before running it,
just as you would any other piece of down-loaded software, since
it could have been infected on the bulletin board. It is especially
important to scan the Updater for viruses in this case because you
disable your anti-viral software to run it.
