  1. The AppleShare Updater modifies a PACK resource in the
  2. AppleShare file.  If you are running an anti-viral program this
  3. may trigger an anti-virus response. This response can vary from
  4. reporting a possible viral infection, to disallowing the attempted
  5. ╥infection╙ silently, to disallowing the update but reporting the
  6. action.  If this happens to you, congratulations!  Your anti-viral
  7. software is working.

  9. If the update has been disallowed, AppleShare Updater will
  10. report a failure to you without modifying the file, even if your
  11. anti-virus software doesn╒t give you a message.
  12. 
  13. Simply override your anti-virus program (if it has an override
  14. switch) or disable it while you run the Updater.  Don╒t forget to
  15. turn it back on as soon as you╒re done.
  16. 
  17. Please note that while the Updater is performing an activity that
  18. appears virus-like, it is not a virus and was virus-free when we
  19. shipped  it to you.  Of course, if you downloaded it from a bulletin
  20. board, you should scan the Updater for a virus before running it, 
  21. just as you would any other piece of down-loaded software, since
  22. it  could have been infected on the bulletin board.  It is especially
  23. important to scan the Updater for viruses in this case because you 
  24. disable your anti-viral software to run it.
